Family Fun Run and 13K (not so fun!)

Last Saturday and Sunday Ken and I (and Matthew in his jogging stroller) participated in a couple of races. The run on Saturday wasn't an "official" race, just a short route of a little over a mile here on post. Fort Riley had their big Fall Festival on Saturday and the day started off with a family fun run. I pushed Matthew in the jogging stroller and Ken ran it with the girls (doggies). There was a pretty good group of runners and walkers and surprisingly enough Matthew and I came in first overall. We were speed demons! Ken and the girls came in 4th.

The real race was on Sunday. It was the Run Your Buns Off 13K and this time Ken pushed Matthew in the jogging stroller (not fair I know) and I ran it myself. Anyone who's ever ran while pushing the stroller knows that it is MUCH harder than running without it. I finished with a time of 1:10 and Ken was about 9 minutes behind me. I placed second in my age group and was in the top ten overall for the females. It was a pretty challenging 8 mile loop through Manhattan. Most of the first mile and a half was uphill and at mile 5 we had a REALLY steep hill. Ken did so awesome pushing Matthew the whole time, I was amazed. What a great way to spend a weekend, huh?!
