May 31st was branding time at the O'Donnell Ranch. My dad has about 50 head of cattle and works full time for Williston Basin Interstate and ranches as a hobby. That's him there with the branding iron. It's a full time hobby but something he loves. We live on the place that his great-uncle homesteaded. My grandfather then made his home here along with my grandma, my dad and his 9 siblings. We moved back out here from town when I was in 5th grade. Branding time was always a fun time of year. We would go and help all the neighbors and they in turn would help us. Now that I'm older wrestling calves doesn't sound like as much fun as it used to be so I was just a spectator this year.

Matthew and Marilyn Askins, who is my dad's cousin and also my grandpa's (mom's dad) cousin. It's by marriage of course. Montana isn't backwoods like that!
